Tastes like summer on a stick. Crisp bites of watermelon that have been soaked in tequila are the perfect addition to your summer get together.

If you are planning on serving these in a setting with kids around make sure to have another version of watermelon available that looks distinctly different from these adult treats.

Triangle cuts and popsicle sticks should do the trick.

You can make these melon margarita cubes and eat them out of a bowl on their own or grab a few skewers and take them to go. These are a crowd pleaser and very simple to put together.

Ingredients

  • Ripe Seedless Watermelon, 4 cups cubed

  • Fresh Limes

  • 1/2 cup Tequila* See Notes

Directions

  • Prepare the watermelon cubes
-Start by cutting your watermelon into bite size pieces. I like my cubes about “2 bites big”. This size keeps them from getting too soft while they soak.
  • Chill for at least 1 hour
    – Place your watermelon cubes in a 9×13 baking dish or a large container. You want these to overlap as little as possible but its okay if they do. Cover with the tequila, give the container a little shake to make sure everything is coated and refrigerate. *See notes if you want your skewers to end up a little sweeter.
  • Make lime wedges
-While the watermelon is chilling wash your limes and cut them into wedges.
  • Assemble the skewers
-After your watermelon has had time to chill in the fridge pull them out and begin to assemble the melon margarita skewers. I tend to use 2 lime wedges and 3 watermelon cubes per skewer.

Notes

  • You can use your preferred choice of tequila for this recipe.
  • If your watermelon is not sweet on its own try adding a simple syrup when soaking the pieces to lessen some of the tequila bite.
  • Fresh mint is also great on these! It transforms them into Mojitos.
  • Try garnishing with Tajin or a flaky salt.
  • Keep the tequila after you remove the watermelon cubes! This can be used as infused tequila for shots and drinks.
